Tesla Roadster Aims for 400-Mile Range With Battery Upgrade

Built from 2008 until 2011, the Tesla Roadster was the first model of Tesla Motors. Back then, they were able to cover 245 miles in a single charge thanks to its 53 kWh battery pack. Earlier this year, CEO Elon Musk made public that Tesla will offer a state-of-the-art battery pack upgrade for the two-seater electric vehicle.  Musk estimates that the new generation battery pack should have a range of about 400 miles – allowing one to drive from LA to San Francisco non-stop. The price of the replacement battery has not yet been unveiled, but analysts guess that it will be in the $45,000 price range.

 

California Takes Record Volumes of Oil by Rail

California, the biggest gasoline market in the U.S., took in a record volume of waxy oil by rail from Utah in June as imports from Canada and North Dakota dropped.  The state received 2,737 barrels of oil per day last June- which was almost twice the volume of the previous month and up from nothing a year ago.   California’s oil-by-rail deliveries are surging as refiners in western U.S. lacks direct pipeline access and therefore needs trains to reach booming crude production from shale formations in the center of the country and Canada.

Gamesa Reaches 30 GW Milestone

Gamesa, one of the world’s biggest wind energy company, has announced that it has installed a total of 30 GW worth of wind power with the completion of one of the eight wind turbines being set-up at the Tornio wind farm in Finland. The 30 Gigawatts worth of Gamesa’s wind turbines are generating enough energy to provide power for 18 million households as well as prevent 45 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

Vivint Solar To File for IPO

Home security company Vivint is reported to have confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO) for its solar arm, Vivint Solar. People in the know says that Vivint may launch the IPO as early as this fall, depending on the conditions of the market. According to Reuters, Vivint is talking to a group of banks, including Goldman Sachs Group, on the proposed offering. Once launched, Vivint Solar will be in direct competition with SolarCity.
